A huge chunk of the US population has no health insurance or has a deductible so high that they can't afford to use their health insurance. Our medical system doesn't support everyone. The upper middle class doesn't understand this because they don't see it. They have great health insurance. Their family, friends, coworkers and neighbors have great health insurance. Our society deems their health and well being important and in turn, they trust doctors. The working class doesn't get this same treatment. Society has deemed them disposable. They might not be able to articulate this but they feel it. People who haven't been able to see a doctor when they needed one have lost trust. I've been vaccinated, but I understand when I see the people around me unsure. I hope one day everyone in this country is afforded the basic human decency of medical care. Our country can afford it if we care to. And I hope it happens before we meet a pandemic more deadly than covid.
