I am not american but have seen enough post on reddit about their health system. My question is, why not travel to another country with cheaper health care and recover there.
Example: A quick google search tells me that it cost around $100,000 for a liver transplant with insurance. Without it the cost ends up being around $330,000. For comparison, a liver transplant in india costs $50000. Even with travel and other costs, it would be no where near $100,000.
If you are worried about quality, according to my uncle and my dad who went with him for his liver transplant, the care they put into his surgury and well being was top notch. This cost him around 35000$ including stay, medicines and other expensives (not including travel and before travel expenses like visa etc). We are not from india and had no connections there.
You do not have to go to india. Other countries also have much cheaper hospitals. Ofcourse in emergency no one can go this route. Other than that, what are the hurdles.
