So I've been suffering from a list of issues for a while now but haven't been able to see a doctor because I'm in my 30's and lack decent coverage because my shaky employment status. I decided to suck it up for a good 2 years, move back in with my family, and just finish my bachelors degree. I would get it figured out once I land a job with decent healthcare options. However, I graduated once COVID started and the job market wasn't the best. My condition is getting worse and I feel like it'd prevent me from performing effectively at most jobs (It's bowel related).
My parents have allowed me to live rent free while I was attending college since it was down the street from where they lived. They just asked that I allow them to claim me as a dependent while I was attending school, which was a really solid deal. However, with my health conditions worsening, we needed to find a way to get myself into working condition. They found a clinic with sliding fee and honestly I'm all ready to get this figured out.
Unfortunately, my parents are very old school and refuse to really give me any financial information for the sliding fee. They're pressuring me to claim that the family gross income is zero as in I'm on my own. They figured I wouldn't qualify for the sliding fee as they make too much money. This isn't too far off as I don't actually receive any money, though the free room is definitely saving me thousands every month in socal. However, I feel like this is walking a very dangerous line as I'm sure this can be traced through my Social Security information that I'm providing, especially with my parents claiming me. I don't actually know how this works, but I'm sure this information could be dug up. I'm also sure this'll disqualify me from any discount and I'm not too keen on being in thousands of dollars of debt while unemployed.
IDK what I'm really asking aside from how these family gross incomes are calculated and if I'd be held responsible for information I personally can't get a hold of? I'd also like to know how easy it is for the clinic to dig up my financial information. I'm honestly not very smart when it comes to all this paperwork stuff. My parents are refugees and this information isn't exactly taught in school.
