Despite the folding of Haven, we now know that Amazon Care is alive and growing, with plans for a nationwide rollout to a base other than its own employees. I’m curious what Amazon’s sales pitch is to other employers. Your guesses/thoughts?
As far as I can tell their offering is almost entirely virtual primary care, so is their pitch something like “we can do PC at a lower cost of care, and we’ll do such a good job preventing further care down the line you’ll save on specialist care and hospital stays too?” If so, I have skepticism about both patient and provider’s appetite for care being provided virtually, but I’d have the most skepticism around the promise that they can truly reduce the expensive stuff. I’m guessing they’d find that to true make an impact on costs, they’d have to have much tighter control over specialty care and facilities, which they’d find to be more than they can (or want to) chew.
