For all the vision impaired/ contact lens wearers of this subreddit from the USA,
For as long as I’ve had contacts I’ve opted to buy Daily lenses because every eye doctor I’ve ever had has recommended them over the monthly option.
I always knew the monthly’s were cheaper but figured if the Dr. recommends it, I’ll splurge the extra few dollars over what my insurance covers.
Only recently did I realize how huge the price difference between the two is, why do docs not cover this when recommending lenses?
Not only this, but on the visit to my most recent eye doc, I asked him what the price difference would be between the daily and monthly option and he claimed to have no idea. For a price difference so large, you’d think he would at the very least let me know that I’d save hundreds of dollars year over year!
Do the vision practices get a cut of every contact lens order? That would explain their hesitancy to be upfront with patients about the price differences and be extremely unethical in my mind.
TLDR: I feel like I’ve been mislead about the price difference/ health benefits of daily vs monthly contacts all my life just so eye doctors can make a few extra bucks.
