About a year ago I ( very very stupidly) called an ambulance after getting into an accident on my bike. It drove me 3 blocks to the hospital. My insurance (blue cross blue shield) said that they did not consider “any ambulance anywhere” to be in network, and so only paid a small portion of the bill. I was left with over 2 grand. I fought it for about a year with no luck. Then, a few months ago, I finally said on the phone with the ambulance service, “Fine, I’ll pay, but please send me an itemized bill because I do not understand how driving me 3 blocks cost over 2 grand.” They said fine and then I forgot about it until last week. When I went on the website to check my balance and it is now 0! I’m very happy, but I have no idea what happened and I don’t want to call them and ask why in case it was a mistake. The only thing I can think is that I asked them for the itemized bill, but that seems insane right? What else could it be?
