I live in California. I’ve been seeing my current psychiatrist (probably once every three months) for severe and debilitating anxiety for over a year and he prescribes me medications. Last month I had sort of a suicidal episode and my mother called Kaiser asking for their help. They had a therapist call me on the phone and talk to me for a while.
Later that month, I got a call from an employee in the psychiatry department. She informed me that due to the severity of my psychiatric symptoms, it’s not in their contract with the state (I have Kaiser through state healthcare) to treat me anymore and that I’ll get charged out of pocket if I continue seeing my doctor. She suggested other mental facilities for me to go to and said that I have to get medications prescribed from them now.
I got another phone call since then saying the same thing, so I made an appointment with their recommended county facility and had an awful experience with their psychiatrist. He also flat out refused to continue my current medication (0.5 MG of Klonopin once per day) under any circumstance. They even surprise drug tested me (100% clean) and treated me like I was a recovering drug addict there on court order.
Is it normal for Kaiser to literally turn a patient away because they deem your symptoms too severe…? I’m honestly devastated.
