I have some big medical bills. I have applied for financial assistance from some of them. I am self-employed but basically had 0 income in 2020.
One of them wrote back to me and asked if I got unemployment. I didn't. I was rejected.
They asked how I'm supporting myself with no income.
I've been living off of savings and I moved back in with my parents during Corona. If I tell them either of these things will I be turned down for financial assistance? Will they make my parents pay it?
I want to answer in the way that will keep me from having to pay but also responding honestly. I have learned in these situations volunteering too much information is usually not good. I have my taxes from last year showing a net loss.
I have some savings (not much) and paying this bill would eat like half of it. I have some investments (very few) that I could sell to pay the bill, but I don't want to, and I feel like with zero income last year I'm eligible for assistance anyway. Do I say I've been living off savings? This might make them say well how much savings do you have? Oh ok you can afford it! Do I say I have no money and my parents have been supporting me?
