About a month ago I sprained my ankle pretty bad and could barely put weight on it. I went to my in-network urgent care facility, where an x-ray confirmed I had a pretty severe sprain. They provided me with an ankle stabilizing brace, and had me sign an electronic form, "To show your insurance company that we provided you with a brace."
Today I get a bill from a company named Pacific Medical Inc. They are billing me $150 for a basic ankle brace that I see retails for a maximum of $30 online. I log into MyCigna to look at the explanation of benefits and I see that this was billed at full cost to me as out of network. This seems incredibly scammy to me on the Urgent Care facility's part.
How on earth is a patient supposed to know where their in-network provider is procuring their medical supplies!? Should I call Cigna, the urgent care provider, or the overpriced biller of the cheap ankle stabilizer?
