My 6 year old son is disabled and receives medicaid due to this disability. He will have this insurance forever. This has also been his only insurance for his whole life.
Im starting a newer, better paying job and am debating wether I want to add him to my work insurance plan. We have not had any issues with the medicaid being his only insurance. But if my example below is accurate, then I could see it being beneficial to add him.
Say my work insurance has a $2,000 deductible. My son goes to hospital and receives a $1000 bill, my work insurance (primary) wouldn't pay it if my deductible is not met, so it gets kicked to the secondary and they would cover the entire bill.....so following this example, how much of the primary insurance deductible is considered met....$0 or $1000? Does it count toward my deductible if the secondary paid it?
