For the record, I have been very responsible at paying almost all of my Blue Cross premiums on time for many years (since Obamacare started really), and even with autopay before, but somehow I really dropped the ball this year and forgot to pay my premiums in January and February. My money was running short right before the stimulus & vacation pay hit at my job, and I made two bad assumptions at the time:
- I could just "catch up" right when I got the money (since I knew I had 3 months to do so); or
- after I found out about the new extended enrollment period, I figured I could just fill out a new application and "jump back in"
Well, I didn't remember to do #1 in time, and I found out today that #2 turned out to be something other than what I thought (won't even let me go forward since I already submitted a 2021 application, back in December). I guess it's for people who couldn't enroll, or forgot to back in the fall?
Is there anything I can do? Can I call up Blue Cross and work something out with them, pay the backpayments with interest to reinstate my policy? Will they be more willing to do something like this because of Covid?
I'm beating myself up for this right now. I don't have any medical problems (at least that I'm aware of) right now, but I haven't had a physical since I was a teenager (I'm 36 now). I might have some hypertension (it least it feels that way sometimes). I'm stressed out a lot, and I really just want to make sure everything is okay, and take better care of myself now.
What prompted this today, was needing to take a Covid test for work (starting to show one symptom, but that was enough for them to want me to get a test), and seeing that, at many places, it would only be "free" if I had health insurance (luckily, I found out the CARES Act will take care of it, but now I can't get this off my mind).
Is there anything I can do for now? Thank you if you've got this far, and I really appreciate any advice you might have for me!
