[Question - Insurance] Hospital fell behind on sending bills, do I owe?

So my wife went to the doctor last year in April twice, Insurance doesn't cover them and we knew this, however we just now got the bill last week because the hospital got bought out by a larger one and now they want us to pay. I need to call them back and explain that in April and May last year we had an FSA we could have used to cover it but now it no longer exists. Any ideas on how to address this with them?
