I think I might have messed something up and wanted to get advice on the best way to proceed.
My wife and I got married late last year. We both had separate ACA plans in 2020. This year I enrolled us both on one plan through my account. I had read somewhere (or thought I had) that there was no way to prevent her plan from reenrolling for 2021; that we just had to not pay the first month premium and the plan would never activate.
Now I'm not so sure, given the overdue bill we just got from the insurance company for her re-enrolled individual plan, which says we'll have to pay back the subsidy if we never pay the bill. So now my wife has two marketplace plans with the same insurance company. Should we cancel the plan? will we still have trouble with taxes because she was enrolled for part of the month even if we never paid?
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.
