Colitis [question - other]

My brother is 17 and was diagnosed with colitis last November. It's been 11 months and the inflammation has only a little bit improved. He took a medication pill and now is on an injection. His diet is not up to par and from what I understand the prescribed diet is impossible; no sugar, no carbs, no raw veggies or other foods, etc. For those of you who are battling this, how is it going? Also, how are your finances like? My mom's work may shut down in Spring and she would be left without insurance unless she finds a new job with hopefully good coverage.
