Thank you for time in helping me figure this out. I’ve been given the run around so I figured I could turn to this community!
So on June 14, in Ohio, US, I went to the emergency room because I dropped something on my foot and thought I may have had a small fracture. Turns out it was just a bone bruise and nerve sweeping. I did have a couple of X-rays and an air cast(like a little splint) and was on my way out.
I received a bill that just said “radiology- diagnostic gen - $925.88” and “emergency room - $2,286.28” along with an insurance adjustment of $1,400 (I’m assuming because it was in network?). I have not reached my deductible on my insurance plan so they are not paying anything. I also received a separate bill for the emergency specialist of $200, which I have already paid in full.
I called the billing department and requested a further itemized bill and they sent me the same bill, so I’m thinking this is as itemized as it gets? It’s so vague.
My question is, where do I start to negotiate this? I’d be willing to pay for a portion immediately if they lowered it to that portion. But I would also like to see a further breakdown to see if I was charged fairly. Paying this whole bill would put me in a tight spot. I know you can do a payment plan, but I’d really like to get it reduced and taken care of.
I saw a post on r/all the other day about doctor bills usually being way overpriced with the expectation of negotiation. I’ll link it if I can find it again.
Thanks so much!
