I know medical cost are going out of control, but my wife had an outpatient Hernia Surgery last month and the total bill was $72,375.85 just for the hospital portion of the bill. Which included $1,794.60 for pharmacy, $6,753.24 for Devices and implants, $88.00 for laboratory Pathological, $59,866.01 for operating Room Ambulatory-Surgery and $3,874.00 for All Inclusive Ancillaries. Insurance ended allowing $32,367.69. Is it just me, or is this crazy amounts for a routine surgery? Showed up at like 10:00am, we were gone by 4:00 ish. I believe the booked the operating room for two hours, so that is like $500 per minute? $7,000 for some thread and mesh? This does not include $862.50 for anesthesia or $1,560 for the doctor.
