Recently lost my job due to shutdowns and now Im not sure what to do about my health insurance. I didn’t get insurance through my job, I got it through the NY marketplace so my plan/premiums were tied to my income. While I was employed this cost was do-able but now that I’m unemployed it’s $540/month I can’t afford. So what’s the best thing to do here? I know that the marketplace allows you to make changes to your application for “life events” like job loss but has anyone gone through this already and have advice? Should I change my plan? Would applying while unemployed mean income is $0 and I’m now basically qualified for Medicaid? I feel a bit overwhelmed and I could use some advice, thank you!
