[Discussion] Health vs Money

I developed an excruciating pain under my ribs on Tuesday. Went to the ER. Dr says they are going to remove my gallbladder. The surgery alone will cost about $10,000 even with my $500 a month insurance plan. I'm a lone parent (kid is 16) who works as a freelancer. I checked myself out of the ER, went home and upped my insurance plan (still open enrollment). My new platinum plan will cover most of the surgery and hospital costs. I am waiting until February 1 (just over 23 hours to go) to go back to the ER and have my gallbladder removed - if I can get through the pain. My Dr. gave me pain medicine to help me. I promised to go to the ER if I develop a fever. Part of me thinks I am being completely stupid, part of me thinks I am being practical and part of me is in too much pain to get out of bed. Hopefully I won't develop a fever in the next 23 hours, I've made it this far. I'm sure there are others in the same situation or even worse off. Thanks for listening.....
