Hello,
I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I have read a lot of articles and things about how a plant based, whole foods diet could help manage type 2 diabetes, as well as the ketogenic diet (in addition to exercise). My ultimate goal is to get off of my medication.
I accept that diabetes is a chronic, progressive disease. I am committed to a lifestyle change, but have no idea where to start when it comes to nutrition. Vegans are saying that meat and animal products are bad. Keto people say that carbohydrates from fruits, beans and rice are bad.
The only things that these two diets have in common are: no added sugar and no refined carbohydrates. Not sure where to start, diet-wise. So far, since my diagnosis a few weeks ago, I have been doing low carbohydrates and high vegetables and still keeping on minimum meats, so about 4-6 oz of lean meat. No sugary foods like cookies and candy, and no refined carbohydrates like white bread.
Not sure which diet I should conform to for the rest of my life. I am currently 28.
