American here, 23 years old. I tore my ACL last summer playing soccer, no health insurance. I just finished college and have a job lined up as a teacher starting in August. However, the insurance benefits won't come into effect until September.
Due to the nature of the job and the recovery period of the surgery, I would most likely have to wait to get the procedure done at the end of next school year (summer 2020). That is a long wait and I'm going crazy not being able to do the activities I was able to do pre-injury!
I was wondering if I get the surgery this summer (pre-insurance), would the insurance begin covering the bills once it comes into effect in September? Or would me getting the surgery before coverage make it no longer a pre-existing condition in the insurance's eyes?
Thank you in advance!
Edit: I was lucky enough (/s) to grow up my entire life without health insurance so I have a very minimal understanding of how any of this works.
