A 12 year old relative is coming to live with me for the school year and probably longer. The mother has given me power of attorney (basic notarized form), but nothing permanent like legal guardianship. Relative does not have health insurance. I don't think I can claim them since I don't have a court order. How can I buy health insurance for them? Even if it's disaster insurance I'd rather something than nothing.
I have UHC. Going to call them on Monday but everything I've read says I can't add to my plan unless a judge has signed papers.
Is it possible for me to purchase a separate plan for them outside of my normal plan? Has anyone done this?
