My healthcare provider billed me $550 for a less than 15 minute zoom call with a nurse practitioner. When I messaged them to ask about the charge as I cannot image the going rate for a zoom call with a NP is approx $2000/hr, the billing rep replied "After reviewing your account, this was for a new patient visit with the nurse practitioner. All charges are in compliance with Federal, State and Payer billing guidelines.". First of all, I disagree i was ever a patient of this NP. she works for my Dr (that i DID pay a new patient fee for), and this was simply a call to determine what kind of iron iv I should receive. I never met this NP, in my opinion this zoom was no different than if she had asked me these questions when I was in the Dr's office. With all due respect to NPs, this charge sounds incredibly over the top. I also saw I was billed for a 30 minute call, when I am positive it was less than 15 (though no proof on my end as I dont have a paid zoom account) Any thoughts to push back, or does this sound correct?
