Need help with picking a medical profession.

Hi, everyone, I am looking into getting a medical degree. Not sure where to start. Nursing is pretty popular but I am anxious about liability issues with it. I have thought about occupational therapist and cardiology technician. What helped you choose your field of work? What advice would you give to a 26 year old? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
