Why is it like this? Received no care but plenty of attitude

This is long, sorry. Okay, background. About 8 years ago I had an injury to my wrist at work. I didn’t report the day I did it because I used to wait tables and the pain was very similar to that twinge you get if you pick up a heavy drink tray. Know what I mean? It’s a twinge at the top of your wrist, a few inches above the base of your thumb. Except this was at the bottom of my wrist, diametrically opposite of the pain I described. Anyway, 2 days later it started to burn, so I caved and told my boss. She made a note of it but basically did nothing. A week later, I went over her head and arranged a meeting with our safety officer. And here she comes with a clipboard looking all concerned.‘I was packed off to the workman’s comp place. Pee in this cup, blah blah blah. He slapped a brace on it and told me to come back in two weeks.

I did. He saw me, did nothing, told me to come back in three weeks. I did. Again did nothing, told me to come back in two weeks. Meanwhile, the burning pain is getting worse, but all they’ve concerned with is testing my urine for drugs.

This goes on for over 4 months.

I finally tell him “I need something DONE or I’m not coming back. He FINALLY refers me to an amazing orthopedic surgeon, who tells me that had he seen me immediately he could have soft casted me for two weeks and everything would have been fine. But now? My TFCC is basically a cloud, and now I need a 3 hour surgery. My arm will be casted, elbow bent, hand facing my face( picture making a sock puppet that you’re talking to.) And it will be casted this way for two months. I have two pins driven through my tibia and ulna, and stitches at the base of my palm. ( By the way I do not recommend walking up screaming when your wrist pins get lodged inside your cast.)

He did an amazing job. My wrist is good as new.

However two weeks ago I fell hard at work and injured my other wrist. Pain is the same. I didn’t report it due to my fear the the work comp doctor would do the same thing. I have insurance. Good insurance. I also have a terrific personal doc that was able to get me in to see the amazing orthopedic doc. Great, right???

No. Mi stupidly told the nurse the truth. BAM. She’s out the door and here comes Ms. Workman comp with her clipboard. Tried to backtrack and say, no, thought you were asking about previous injury, this was done at home. They’re not buying it.

Here’s the thing. I pay quite a lot for my insurance. I had to leave without being seen because it’s more important to them about billing than my getting an X-ray. I just didn’t want to go to the horrible workman’s comp doctor so he could systematically destroy this wrist too. No matter what I said they were all ‘workman’s comp! Workman’ comp!” I left without being seen. All I wanted was an X-ray to make sure it wasn’t as bad as the last time. Now I can’t go back because they’ll inform my employer, I’m sure. I was stupid and had smoked quite a bit of marijuana the week before, so I really just planned lying about tripping over my dog, but I’m embarrassed to say I got lost on the way to the place because the area changed.

The whole situation sucks because he’s the best wrist guy in 4 states and now I can’t see him..

Why does it matter if I did it at work or not???? This is MY insurance. Yes, I buy it through work but I pay a lot. What do I do now???
