A recent Commonwealth Fund study (https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2023/jan/us-health-care-global-perspective-2022) showed the following:
- Health care spending, both per person and as a share of GDP, continues to be far higher in the United States than in other high-income countries. Yet the U.S. is the only country that doesn’t have universal health coverage.
- The U.S. has the lowest life expectancy at birth, the highest death rates for avoidable or treatable conditions, the highest maternal and infant mortality, and among the highest suicide rates.
These are similar to surveys from before the pandemic and even before the Affordable Care Act (ACA). What is clear is that repeated attempts to fix the US healthcare system with reforms limited to increasing insurance coverage and cost containment. Isn't it time to completely scrap the system and rebuild an evidence based, user friendly health care system with a modern infrastructure that is insulated from political and financial pressures?
Only one proposal offers this. EMBRACE (an acronym for Expanding Medical and Behavioral Resources with Access to Care for Everyone) is a unique, far-reaching healthcare reform proposal which offers universal access to basic healthcare services as well as a modern, user-friendly framework. Unlike most other proposals that are limited to health insurance, EMBRACE outlines a blueprint for comprehensive reform of healthcare system oversight and infrastructure that is designed to create a science based, physician led and patient-friendly system insulated from political and financial influences.
