Is it possible for a non-profit academic hospital to lower healthcare costs to patients locally without bankrupting?

What ideas do you suggest that could be implemented locally to provide cheaper healthcare?

BACKGROUND: I am an MD division chief at an academic non-profit hospital and oversee a staff of ~100 people and collectively provide ~50,000 visits each year (clinic + procedure). I can influence contracting only with buy-in of hospital leadership. The leaders are business minded physicians+nurses+managers and open to good ideas to test out.

How can a hospital / specialty serve patients in the US system at a cheaper cost without playing the insurance, competitive game? Is it even possible to lead out in this arena without just bankrupting the local hospital?
