Hi Everyone,
I'm thinking about something relating to health passports and want to see what the community thinks of it and what the potential use cases are for it. I've been starting to ask around health communities to know what the pain points are relating to health records to see if health passports would be helpful in addressing some of them.
For context, there are some emerging health passport apps that help securely merge your medical records automatically in one place, even if they come from different hospital systems. (See https://picnichealth.com/, https://www.ciitizen.com/, https://www.trypluto.com/ for examples. Note: I have no affiliation with any of these companies but just referencing for illustration purposes).
In my personal experience, I have personally seen a lot of issues relating to paying medical bills, finding important information online quickly and reliably, and just general issues in accessing your records.
My questions to the community: let's say you had one of these health passports and that they are 100% in your control in terms of privacy, security, and what and who to share it with - what would you do with it? Would you expect this to be free/paid? What kinds of problems could this solve?
I've heard some ideas so far including:
- Making parts of the passport shareable, so that people can share with other physicians to look at, to family members, or even to online communities in search of information
- Adding a "GoFundMe" button to help pay for medical costs - the health passport would provide evidence and context to the story
- For those with rare diseases or undiagnosed cases, having the ability to start threads/posts/comments within your health passport to form small help communities online surrounding your case.
- Opening it up to a research network to contribute to research and get compensation for access to your health data.
Thanks for your time
