Florida: loss of benefits due to falling under work hours requirement due to illness
Help. State of Florida’s People First is threatening to take away my health insurance due to falling under their 30 hour a week work requirement.
I am an OPS employee in an university. My hours cap at 40 per week. Typically I work the 40 hours unless health reasons or holidays prevent me.
Over the summer I traveled back to my home country for a month, but I had a health emergency and ended staying another month under doctor’s recommendations.
Fast forward to last week, I got a letter from the state of Florida saying that due to having worked less than 30 hours per week in 12 months, I will lose my health insurance.
I am currently looking for some of the doctors notes from that time period to show the state that it was due to health reasons.
What else can I do? What are the chances that they’ll take my benefits away?
Any advice would be appreciated.
