I've been a CNA for almost 15 years in a rehab/ nursing home. I made the mistake of reading comments in a thread on nursing homes in this pandemic and it just really hurt. We are labeled as drug addicted abusers who want to be called heroes for just doing our jobs, we are blamed for bringing the virus into facilities when the fact is my facility at least is still admitting patients from the hospital which is a more probable transmission.
I do love my patients. I love and hate the work I do. I feel just one more staff member most nights would take my day from shitty to ok. I want to be an advocate for better conditions for staff and patients. I'm trying to find a voice after years of lurking on forums but it's so discouraging to be met with so much hostility and misinformation about the work we do. I want an awareness of our need for better staffing, equipment and hazard pay.
Anyone else getting this reaction?
