The last 2-3 weeks I have had a dry cough, I assumed that it was just from getting over a bug I had a little while ago. Starting Thursday or Friday I have been waking up with body aches, headaches, and just being exhausted constantly. I just woke up two and a half hours ago with a fever. I am currently sitting in my living room with the AC running still wet and sticky with sweat. I feel like I'm in a sauna. I called my hospital and they sent me to the testing questionnaire hotline.
I do not meet any of the testing criteria. since I am not 50yo+, don't have COPD, nor history of high BP, and I do not know my temp since all the stores are sold out and I don't own one. They asked if I have been in contact with someone who has tested positive to which I said "I do not know but I work as a pharmacy technician and I fill prescriptions and handle a lot of cash/drugs nearly every other day basis."
They then asked me to admit into the ER and get a temperature reading to which I told them that I do not have health insurance and cannot afford a $1200 bill to check my temperature. They told me to call back in 7 hours with the hospital manager comes in. Should I tell my family? I live alone and I don't want to worry them or have them travel to come see me nearly two hours away. Also what should I do if they still deny me a test? I don't want to go into work and get other people sick. There are ton of really old patients and people with a wide assortment of health conditions I see every other day. But at the same time my employer will not give me paid leave unless I test positive. If I don't go into work I will be evicted. I'm already being sued for a bill on my last hospital visit and am in the process of having my wages garnished. I live in Alabama and they have not set up any type of protections for renters. I don't have any PTO since I'm only a part-time employee and started in late January.
I don't know what to do guys.
