[Question - Insurance] mandatory insurance but they won't cover anything!!

I just spoke to my health insurance and they said I have a 6k deductable. (Me a single male with no children). They said I have to pay EVERYTHING out of pocket until I Hit 6k in medical costs.... I pay 150 every month for this insurance from my job (UMR) and am confused as to wtf is going on here! Is this always the case? I thought it was always a copay that adds up to a deductable.. what should I do if my employer is forcing me to get a doctor's note for the job? Now I have to pay 200 for a doctors visit because I missed one day of work for a pulled muscle.. this is ridiculous

[Question - Insurance] I called my health insurance provider to get full written details of my plan, and they were unwilling to provide it to me. Is that legal?

I understand that providers have a legal requirement for a written summary of benefits, glossaries of terms, and examples of coverage, but I don't know how much further that extends.

Basically I wanted to have it written somewhere so that I don't have to call through a god-awful hotline system (in my experience they're all about equally bad) just to ask "hey do you cover this?" and instead be able to reference a document to understand what is and is not covered.

Health tourism could solve certain problems - Is it going to keep growing in the future? [Discussion]

Hopefully, international traveling will be back to normal soon and people can live safely everywhere. Dental tourism in peacetime is increasing, because there is a huge amount of money to save on private treatments when you can just hop on a plane, land within few hours, and have everything done while having a quick break.

Especially popular in Europe, when people from the UK or Germany for example, travel to Poland, Hungary or Turkey to receive complex treatments.

Does anyone have experience as a patient? Dentists, who work with patients from abroad, what are the biggest challenged organizing the workflow of this nature?

inHealed.com is just about to launch, allowing patients to find dentists and consult about private treatments abroad, from the comfort of their home. At least until we are locked down in our homes.

[Discussion] How do healthcare providers cover the cost for patients that can't or won't pay the bill?

I go to the ER pretty often for my job and I would guess that close to 50% of the people I see in there are homeless. Obviously they are not going to be paying any medical bills but they do receive basic treatment.

So how does the hospital pay for their healthcare? Does the government subsidize or reimburse hospitals that had patients skip the bill?

Also, is it true that that the ER is the most expensive department in most hospitals?

[Discussion] Is your employer not providing wages if you fall ill, threatening to dock pay and, remove all your PTO if you choose not to work in a role that deals with Coronavirus, like a screener? How widespread is this?

So, someone close to me is in a threatened age cohort for COVID, and is fearful of contracting it because they are obviously more vulnerable, the sole worker in their household, and don't want to get the illness and jeopardize other family members.

Facing cut hours there was an option to be a screener and to take on a number of other roles dealing with COVID, but they got cold feet and jumped ship last minute, because...1) if you fall ill, this employer is not compensating lost salary, for those who contract Corona, meaning if you get sick, and at least had some work hours, you will now have zero hours (can't come to work with suspected illness after all).

After bailing, they got an official reprimand on their record, and now they pretty much have to do this task, because any worker that doesn't sign up to be a screener or help directly with Corona in whatever capacity they are asked, will now have their PTO depleted 2x as fast. If you choose to stay at home, one day essentially counts for two...and this is already on top of employees having little of it left, since roles were cut or modified when COVID first hit, and many had to resort to using their PTO.

I get that it's a critical time and the system is under strain, but an institution that is strong arming workers, who have the right to some autonomy, is wrong...I strongly doubt that those board members, and higher ups who have zero physical contact with patients, would show up like many doctors, nurses, front desk staff, and others have, so it's they are setting things up to almost obligate all workers to comply.

Are others facing the same choices? I've yet to see any similar accounts.

Minimalist Skincare- Why less is more

How many times have you used a product that caused your acne to get worse, or left you with a serious rash? Or many you have been using so many products that you don’t even know what is effective anymore?

Before even considering a skincare routine one must consider the reasons for doing so. The skin barrier does not like to be tampered with if it doesn’t have to be, it is an organ that was created to protect you and adding to the job is not going to make your skin a superhero. The more products you put on your face the more the natural functioning of the skin will be altered creating more harm than good. Your skincare routine is supposed to enhance the natural mechanisms of fighting these issues and not add to the disabling of the skin barrier. If you start slathering on meaningless products to the skin, this can cause you to develop sensitivities or create a skin issue such as acne.

Have any of you had these problems?

Hey, Im from the middle east, I read that masks could be helpful for the current situation, but are they? I searched for "N95" masks on amazon because I understood these are the quality ones, but they are way too expensive to consider (only 4 pieces for like 25$). Other options are like 50 pieces of 25$ which is understandable, but they all seem lower quality. Any advice on what I should do?

Does lemon actually bleach skin?

I want to put it in a face mask with turmeric and milk and honey to help with my post-inflammatory erythema and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, because it has Vitamin C which I have heard helps with both of those. But I don't want it to bleach my skin, as in make it a different colour, just remove redness and excess melanin caused by acne. Will it literally make my skin lighter than natural?

[Question - Other] Telemedicine, Covid-19, and Emergency paid sick leave requirements

I came across a lemonaid health ad for reflux and thought about checking to see if HeyDoctor had the diagnosis for a better price and then i see this Covid19 screening thing for free. I figure, why not? I was a little sick a month ago with my daughter (she had a little cough for what seemed weeks). I live in Miami Beach, for context. Anyway, we got better but i wanted to see what this would come up with.

The doctor said i might have been exposed and recommended a 14 day quarantine. I asked if this qualified me for the emergency paid sick leave passed in this recent bill. The language says

DIVISION E--EMERGENCY PAID SICK LEAVE ACT

Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act

(Sec. 5102) This section requires employers to provide paid sick time to employees who are unable to work due to the effects of COVID-19 (i.e., coronavirus disease 2019). Specifically, full-time employees are entitled to 80 hours of paid sick time, which is available immediately, for use if the employee

is subject to a governmental quarantine or isolation order,

has been advised by a health-care provider to self-quarantine,

is caring for an individual who is subject to governmental or self-quarantine,

is caring for the employee's child because the child's school or child-care provider is closed, or

is experiencing a substantially similar circumstance related to COVID-19 as specified by the Department of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Department of Labor.

Paid sick time under this section may be used before other paid leave that may be available to an employee. Part-time employees are entitled to such paid sick time for the average number of hours the part-time employee works during an average two-week period. Paid sick time under this section may not carry over from one year to the next.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/6201

So

Does this qualify me to take time off? As i understand it, it won't take effect for another week, from other language in the bill, which is honestly a giant load of shit, but whatever, I'm just here to see if Hey Doctor qualifies as a health care provider

[Question-Other] How Do I Get This Mole Checked Without Health Insurance?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong sub, please let me know of a more applicable one if it is. So, I've had this... "mole" on my wrist since I was 7. I remember the day that I got it because I had been coloring with brown markers the day before and woke up the next morning with this mark on my wrist. I thought it was marker so I kept scrubbing and washing it, and it just never came off. Over the years it has changed shape and pigmentation constantly, but I thought nothing of it since I got it when I was young. It's flat, but looks weird and just changes shape a lot. I usually don't think about it and only notice it every now and again, but it's like every time I look at it it's different. I'm starting to get worried as I'm getting into my mid twenties, cancer runs in my family like it's Usain Bolt, and this mark or mole or whatever keeps changing and I get a lot of sun exposure. Is it possible that I can get it checked without health insurance and without having to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars/go into months or possibly years of debt? I'm a minimum wage worker on food stamps to give you an idea of my position.
