Why do the TV show "NYmed" staff tell patients it's ok they don't have insurance. Nothing ok about it right?

Patients come in to the ER and they are all like "i don't have insurance :(" and the nurse would be like "it's ok we are blahblah hospital."(sorry i forgot the blahblah part.) but what's ok about it? Aren't they going to send huge bills to those patients anyway and they go bankrupt? Wtf?
