Background: I am a (the?) leading activist fighting Husky Health of CT over Transgender rights. They began interfering in my care and other retaliation when I initiated my first lawsuit in March 2016.
@HuskyHealthCT essentially controls all healthcare that is available to me. Even private practices in our state must interact with them and follow their wishes or lose the right to practice in CT.
Yesterday: I sought emergency healthcare @BristolHospital. I have a nerve issue that is crippling approximately 50% of my body.
Initial intake went normally as they were not aware of who I was. I was given a tox screen and another blood test. After processing the test, and researching my health records, Dr. Murray of the Bristol Hospital came and told me that they had too many other patients to be able to treat me. There did not appear to be such a problem - 80% of the lobby was open, visible beds open, staff all seated and chatting.
Afterwords, a saline IV was attached to my left arm. I was informed that I would not receive medical treatment from their hospital and that the IV was intended to "stabilize me". This IV was inserted incorrectly, and may have damaged the nerves in my arm. I lost control of my left arm and fingers, experiencing a high amount of localized pain. Not 1ml of fluid was able to transfer.
When I requested it to be removed, Nurse Barb began to tell the other staff that I was "refusing treatment". I explained many times that I was not refusing treatment, and that if the Doctor felt the saline IV was medically necessary it could be reapplied.
My wife and I were then forced out of the treatment area into the lobby. I requested that the staff call 911 on my behalf or otherwise arrange for emergency transportation to a facility that could assist me safely. Nurse Barb arrived, having followed me through the offices (I used the hallways, she did not). She instructed the staff to speak to their liaison and ensure that I could not call 911 on the hospital. Her staff indicated that they would comply with her request and ensure that I could not acquire emergency transportation.
Our State has a transportation system for medical called Logisticare. A pick up at the hospital requires authorization from the hospital. When we requested that they do so, the staff indicated that they would only authorize that I go home, and not to another facility. At that time, staff called security.
Three members of security then assaulted myself and my wife. I was sitting peacefully in the lobby chairs, in fact one member of security politely spoke with me briefly upon arrival. From security's POV, they did not see me as a threat in any form. I saw them pass through the lobby entirely, into the next room. They had to question the staff to identify me, and in somewhat disbelief required one of them to walk out and point/finger me directly.
After identifying me and initiating conversation, I explained that I was currently waiting peacefully for emergency transportation. At that time the leader of the crew attempted to grab me with both arms to lift me from my chair. My wife stepped between us, deflecting the grab. She stood there, but a secondary member took a fighting stance, and the leader said that they would hurt us if we did not exit the building.
We did so, and had to sit in the rain. The Logisticare service never arrived. When I contacted Husky Health and attempted to use their crisis line, the line specifically designated for emergency services. After receiving my ID number, Agent Carmen informed me that I was not allowed to use the crisis line. We argued, and she was very angry at me because as she said, this line was only to request an ambulance. Although I stated clearly (upset, admittedly) my location and that I required an ambulance, she refused to do so and ended the call.
Today: At around 10am I spoke with the Intensive Care Management people, a special division of Husky Health. I have a specific Nurse assigned to me because of the previous conflicts. She understood my need for emergency care and security since this is the second time I have been violently attacked by hospital staff. She indicated that she was going to call me back today after arranging for an ambulance.
As of now, the standard staff has closed for the day. No Ambulance has arrived. The backup staff has no knowledge of privileged situations like mine, and cannot assist. They offered me an ambulance but could only provide unescorted service and could not authorize camera use. They also could only take me to the location of the previous assault.
I'm sorry that was so much longer than intended. Thank you for reading, if you did.
At this time I am still in need of emergency medical care. The pain is severe 8/10 and limits my use of that side of my body.
While legal options would be desirable at some point, those are arguments for another time.
Feels like I barely know what to ask of my fellow redditors. I am at a total loss. I want to get an MRI or something, a doctor that will treat me fairly and without violence. I bring witnesses always and am willing to wear surveillance equipment to prove that at no time am I violent in any way, or whatever else I am falsely accused of like refusing treatment.
Please assist if you can. Thank you all for letting me tell my story.
