Does anyone know why my tissue makes popping and cracking noises when I am doing lymph drainage massage? Am I pressing too hard and damaging something?

I have been doing lymph drainage for the past couple of days without researching how to properly do it or even knowing what I was doing (I did it intuitively because it feels good). My neck and face are swollen from chronic infection due to cystic fibrosis. I started doing this on my neck, but due to having thick, sticky mucus as a person with CF, I have to do it nearly 100 times to notice fluid moving. It feels so good while I'm doing it, and I apply as much pressure as I feel is right. After researching this, I realize I am applying too much pressure (what I would describe as a mildly sturdy pressure vs. the feathery light pressure you're supposed to apply) . When I am applying pressure, I notice that after a while, the tissues I am rubbing my hands over start making a cracking and popping noise, and then immediately afterward, I feel the movement of mucus in my sinuses, ears, at the back of my throat...which is the goal of the lymph drainage massage, but I just don't see anyone else describing this popping sensation, so I want to make sure I am not damaging the nodes. I wonder that, since I have extra thick and sticky mucus, that I need to press harder as well as massage more than a normal person.

Thank you all for your insight! I didn't even know this was a thing until this evening, so I don't have research in.
