Currently in Medi-Cal I have access to NEMT through my insurance. As I will likely lose coverage this year and need to buy a Silver plan, I have been unable to find if these plans offer, cover or reimburse NEMT.

Blue Shield CA PPO if it matters.

Medicaid - made more money than put in the estimate

Hi! I am from VA. I had Medicaid for 3 years now. I am a student. Every year they ask to give estimated income, I gave them my usual estimate base on how much I made the year before.

However, this summer I had an unexpected internship and now that I am doing my taxes, I realize that I made $2,000 more than the limit because they paid for housing, which was included as my income in my w-2.

My main job is a waitress, so my income is not very constant, so I didn’t know I made a lot more than usual.

Will Medicaid make me pay for the doctors I visited in 2023 or not? With my renewal, I will include my new income and most likely loose Medicaid, but right now I am more afraid that they will make me pay.

When applying for healthcare jobs do they do a mental health screening?

So I’m currently looking for jobs and I was mention to maybe looking into being a checkin person at a hospital or something and I was wondering if that job would at all require a mental health screening? As I would most definitely fail but I do doubt it would as it’s really a thing like enforcement jobs or more important medical jobs but I had to ask.

Health Administration Internships

Hello! I am working towards my bachelors in Health Administration with a minor in health information systems. I have to have a internship by this summer as a requirement and I’m not sure if I’m searching for them correctly. I’m open to trying any as I’m not sure what specifically in health admin or IT I wanna work yet but any experience will help. I’ve tried LinkedIN, Handshake and Indeed. Maybe someone can give me key words for the search bars and companies they recommend? Hoping to stay local. Located in South Florida. Also would like them to be paid.

Reading doctors’ notes and their frustration with insurance

Recently noticed a small shift when reviewing orders and notes before I see patients. Maybe it’s just an EMR change but reasons for orders and consequences of not doing the recommended action seem more blunt, and appear to be getting things done. The more academic, medical theory language is left for the narrative sections. Example 1: Consequences of not: Death Example 2: Delay in authorization has caused significant decline. Patient now has x that may be permanent, stop them from walking, and require additional surgery. (Adjusted to protect)

I had a prompt recovery and full consciousness in 60 seconds, and I told the ambulance folks that I do not have insurance coverage. They would not listen and took me to an ER. Job in women's health, no babies/pregnancy?

Hi,

This seems like a dumb question, but does anyone know any healthcare jobs/career paths I can go into that deal with caring for women and educating women on women's health (can be reproductive, etc), but specifically DO NOT involve pregnancy of any kind? Like once the pt becomes pregnant I want it to absolutely not be my territory unless they're looking to not be pregnant anymore. This is nothing against pregnancy or pregnant women or babies, I love babies, it's just super not my specialty.

Is that just what gynecologists do? Where I'm from OB is always combined with GYN and I have absolutely no interest in obstetrics. I do, however, have a strong interest in women's clinics, and in women's healthcare.

I worked for many years as a CNA and then in the ER as a tech. I loved working as a tech, and I loved the ER, but I ultimately left healthcare due to toxic hospital environments. I think the only job I'd go back for is a job where I can serve female patients. I understand that many patients are underserved, but I specifically saw a lot of examples of doctors/nurses not believing women or dismissing their symptoms. I'm motivated by the whole "be the change you want to see" sort of thing. I can't do a lot, but I'd like to create a safe space for female patients. School is no object. I'll go back to any school for any number of years if I can find the right end goal. Any suggestions?

Thank you for reading🥹❤️

My girlfriend got a bill for 10,000 for the ER

a couple months back my girlfriend (19) went to the ER because she had a migraine. I told her it was not worth it for something like that. She claimed she had “insurance”. from her mom plan. During the time at the ER, they informed her she didn’t have the insurance she thought she did and a couple months later, a 10,000 bill came.

She is absolutely freaked out and i’m not the happiest either. Is there anything that can be done so she doesn’t have to get stuck with this bill. I told her multiple times what could happen if we go to the ER and she didn’t listen but I still wanna help her as much as I can.

I got called back for a follow up after yesterday's screening, and I discovered before the visit that Aetna doesn't consider them preventative so the procedures will cost $1000 and $900 respectively because I haven't met my $4000 annual deductible. I am pissed. I pay $500 a month for health insurance that sucks. Are there any alternatives? Will clinics do low-cost screenings if you have health insurance? I am in the Boston area.

Ignite the patient experience training

Hello. Has anyone on here had their healthcare facility launch the “Ignite the patient experience academy”. The healthcare facility where i work is doing workshops and they have “randomly” selected me. They have been very secretive about the details they provide and have informed us to hold off on questions until we attend the academy. It almost sounds like some MLM/pyramid type stuff. Has anyone on here done the academy or know more about this?

Plus they haven’t mentioned if it comes with a pay increase and I believe that more work responsibilities = pay increase.

Thanks in advance

If you could tell me what position you hold in healthcare (I have to interview two different job titles) and answer the following questions, I'd be eternally grateful.

  1. What is your job title, and why did you choose this line of work?
  2. Describe your current job. How long have you been employed at this job title?
  3. What are the biggest changes you have seen? (I'm not sure if this is supposed to be covid related or not, I think she just means what are the biggest changes you've seen since you started this job?)

The meds cost less than $10 but the doc visit will be over $100 (telehealth) for 10 mins to just say how are you doing. They also said I can ask my PCP to see if they are willing to refills the prescription. Well, I dont have a PCP (never had one for over 20 years lol). I’m considering applying for grants to help the healthcare workers who want to make a transition, or perhaps have already quit their jobs, due to burnout and moral injury.

Seems there are hundreds of thousands who have already quit or want to but not sure how to do this.

Career coaching would include:

-Navigate career transitions -Provide career advice -Help job seekers with job interview skills (including practicing mock interviews) -Examine career assessment results and provide guidance -Assist with career planning -Help to set career goals and long-term professional goals -Explore new career options and opportunities -Advise on how to build your personal brand -Find work-life balance by setting boundaries and examining priorities -Assist in the job search process -Find footing in a new role or new job -Explore ways to upskill or reskill in a current job -Identify new strategies to enhance career development

Anyways, i’m on here to ask that as EMR systems become more integrated with other healthcare technologies, how would the role of go-live support staff might expand to include those systems.

I’ve gone through a bunch of articles and i’ve gathered information about integration with AI, with Telehealth programs and with Remote Patient Monitoring systems.

If anyone can verify these, or guide me on other leads to follow on this, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Issues with Patient First and Insurance Billing - Need Advice!

Hello everyone, I'm a foreigner living in the US and I've run into a confusing situation with Patient First. Here's what happened:

  • October: I got COVID and visited Patient First for treatment.
  • November: Patient First contacted me about issues with my insurance card and requested a new one.
  • December: I submitted the updated insurance information via their website.
  • January: I haven't heard anything back since December. But today, I received a message stating that I will be billed.

I'm worried that they might not have received my new insurance information. Has anyone faced a similar issue? Can I still contact Patient First to resolve this? I'm concerned about being billed the full amount without my insurance coverage. Any advice on how to handle this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Accidentally went to specialist uninsured

As above, I had bought a plan through Obamacare however apparently there was an issue with the first payment (which no one told me) and I was promptly disenrolled from the plan on Jan 1 (they only told me last night via email, I saw it today and can’t speak to anyone as it is a holiday and the office is closed.)

So I guess my first question is do I have any recourse here or am I screwed for the year?

Second question: I had a specialist visit on Jan 2 thinking I was ensured. It was 5 mins of talking to the Dr, plus a urinalysis. I had been referred by my GP. Now that I know that wasn't covered, does anyone in the know have a guess as to how many thousands of dollars I will likely owe?

I live paycheck-to-paycheck in America so as you can imagine I am downward-spiraling quickly as I realize the layered implications of what was basically a glitch. Always feels like I'm one administrative mixup away from being better off 💀.

Why can’t people who are permanently disabled, terminally ill, or over 70 choose undergo euthanasia if they are mentally competent?

I fully believe that people who are permanently disabled, terminally ill, and people over 70 should be allowed to end their lives with medical intervention. I really don’t understand why assisted suicide is widely illegal when it could be controlled by having at least two medical professionals confirm that they are of sound mind and that their health will not improve. I think this would ease a lot of people’s anxiety over death as well as better prepare their families for their passing. People would be able to get all their affairs in order and take the stress off their family as what to do with their body after they die. It also would prevent the pain and suffering of late stages in diseases or old age. Families would not have to watch their loved ones detiorate or spend tons of money and time for their family member to live a low quality of life. It would also lighten the healthcare worker and facility shortages, and decrease poor quality care due to overpopulation. I don’t understand why we try to extend life as long as possible, the sad truth is that most of us will probably be senile and wasting away at the very end, so why not end it on a postive note. I think we should even be able to sign legal forms saying that if we ever do become disabled or terminally ill and are not of sound mind, we want to be euthanized. Modern healthcare has made a lot of things more comfortable and easy, so why not death?

Jobs in Cancer/Oncology research or related careers?

Hi all,

I need some general advice at a crossroad. I have my Masters in education administration and have worked in IT/tech for 10 years.

I left edu admin due to the pay and lack of resources, generally though after being part of the corporate wheel for a while I am ready to do something fulfilling with my skills in data analysis, operations, and documentation amongst other skills. I want to place an emphasis on using my skills to better society and help improve cancer patient outcomes and research.

I am certified as a CPC-A, and am looking to branch into other medical coding specialties - but do not actively work in the field yet. My heart actually really wants to work in Oncology/Cancer related fields, but I’m not sure what options I have.

I am debating on pursuing becoming a Cancer Tumor Registrar/Oncology data specialist but before I sink more time and money into a program considering I am also leaning toward advancing my medical coding certifications (I currently tutor in these subjects and am thinking of branching into a medical coding role). There is an option to also become a certified hematology and oncology coder (CHONC) but am not sure if this route is worth it.

I’d like to learn what other career paths or certifications exist to work in oncology or cancer related fields that are not an oncologist or doctor in this field?

Please let me know. Thank you.

Martin Luther King Jr. and Health Care Disparities

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, it is a good time to remember the long-standing ethnic disparity in the US health care system. In 1966 MLK observed: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman.” Some of these disparities are blatant, like having a separate “Indian Health System” for ethnic Native Americans, while other discriminations are more insidious.

One example of the subtle forms of inequality arises from the differences in insurance plans. It is an unfortunate fact that many doctors and health care facilities do not take Medicaid, because Medicaid pays the provider significantly less (sometimes 60% less) than Medicare or commercial insurance. Since Medicaid recipients are more likely to be people of color, the result is a predominant racial inequality to access.

Because these and many other inequities are entrenched in our healthcare system, they cannot be fixed by the limited insurance reform that seems to be the focus of almost all current proposals for its reform. The only solution is comprehensive infrastructure reform, as found in the #EMBRACE plan. #healthcarereform #healthcare

Problematic Trends in Level 2 Medicare Appeal Outcomes

Level 2 part C and part D appeal data suggests that the rate of inappropriate denials reaching that stage (inappropriate in the sense that the original denials merit overturn according to QICs) is inequitably distributed among services and conditions.

For example, cancers and other expensive treatments are unsurprisingly inappropriately denied far more often than claims corresponding to cheaper, less dire situations.

I work at a hospital in Texas, and we have a Spine surgeon who’s rep brings in human tissue matrixes, but then ends up wasting 90% of it at the end of the case. There are smaller sizes of this brand of tissue matrixes, and this rep knows that the extra will be wasted. We are then charging the patients 3X the cost of the tissue, which means that we are overcharging them what we should be. Is this legal? Was billed $550 for a 15 minute zoom call with an NP

My healthcare provider billed me $550 for a less than 15 minute zoom call with a nurse practitioner. When I messaged them to ask about the charge as I cannot image the going rate for a zoom call with a NP is approx $2000/hr, the billing rep replied "After reviewing your account, this was for a new patient visit with the nurse practitioner. All charges are in compliance with Federal, State and Payer billing guidelines.". First of all, I disagree i was ever a patient of this NP. she works for my Dr (that i DID pay a new patient fee for), and this was simply a call to determine what kind of iron iv I should receive. I never met this NP, in my opinion this zoom was no different than if she had asked me these questions when I was in the Dr's office. With all due respect to NPs, this charge sounds incredibly over the top. I also saw I was billed for a 30 minute call, when I am positive it was less than 15 (though no proof on my end as I dont have a paid zoom account) Any thoughts to push back, or does this sound correct?

medicaid reassurance

So medicaid in my state unfortunately doesn't have automatic renewal this year. The deadline is the 15th of this month. I was kind of late in the game and tried to re - enroll. I was told it takes 5 - 6 mths to get state insurance again. The MD health connections number suggested do an temporary insurance/gap /bridge . Where i pay an set fee this month's and possibly next months. My medication is typically 1$ and it could be 10 $ or less. It takes 30 - 60 business days to get medicaid back. I am hoping to not have to be on this gap insurance till march. I am unemployed and only have food stamps until February unless i get a job. I am very fortunate to live at home. I feel so bad for people whom have to wait to get medicaid if they can't afford this set fee. I took it from my savings and i am wondering now if it worth getting off my phone plan for the gov phone. ( eveyone against it ). Also aparently i get a credit back in regards to the money but not a refund. I hope this makes sense. My mom has acess to my savings due to my impulsive spending. I know what i did was illegal, but it is my money and i know she will b mad about it because she doesn't want me to touch my savings unless for my current phone bill. F 28. I hope this makes sense. I spent most of my days with them on the phone and i am still quite confused. I even got a paper card to get discount on my meds. Can anyone reassure me this is not an scam?
