Health insurance won’t cover the cost of room to talk to my doctor in because I’m fat.
How do I find a healthcare provider who uses the computerized method of testing for ADHD for adults?
I apologize if this doesn't belong here but I don't know where else to ask. It's been suggested that I get screened for ADHD. I would prefer to have one of the computerized testing methods. I cannot find an easy way of searching for providers that use this method. I've tried posting the question in my local social media groups and only got one response but it was a dead end, the psychiatrist retired.
I'm in a major metro area in the US. I know there are a ton of providers here who use this method, but I have no way of obtaining a list to start checking to see who takes my insurance. I tried calling my insurance but they don't keep a database of what methods providers use to diagnose this condition. My primary care doctor does not know. Google searches only get me articles about the testing process, ads for virtual doctors, or providers in other states. My friends only know pediatric doctors who use the computer method or the adults who were diagnosed were diagnosed by symptoms only. I tried checking the websites of the developers of the computer software to see if the have a "find a provider" link but no such luck.
Any suggestions?

Lymph nodes?
This is coming from someone who knows next to nothing about common health things but knows a bit about niche things like MALS but I digress.
The "nodes" on both sides of your neck that mothers check when they think your sick [lymph nodes] what do they feel like?
I’m confused on what I paid/what I owe
This past week I went to get my annual physical. When checking in, the lady at the front desk tells me I have a balance of $536, and she has to collect something or I cannot see the doctor. I had already taken off work and come all the way there, so I went ahead and paid the $100 she asked of me.
I put together that it was most likely for my xray I had gotten a few weeks prior. Different location and doctor, but same healthcare provider. However, at this point in time I had received no bill or EOB about it. Until that point I didn’t know if I even owed anything and what insurance had covered.
The EOB i just received by mail says it was over $1k total and I indeed owe $536 after insurance. I still haven’t received an actual bill for the services yet, but I can see my balance online and it says I do owe $436 more which makes sense. It’s also not due for another month. Aside from that, the only information/documents online just reference “xray”…
Should I have pressed more on what I was paying for at the time? Even though I connected the dots and knew it was probably the xray, she was unable to tell me what the balance was for. I get it’s standard practice to try to collect money so I can continue to use their services, but I’m unsure about the whole situation and it made me a little uncomfortable not being able to know what exactly was going on.
Should I ask for an itemized bill from the hospital? More than anything I’d just like to see what services I was billed for to make sure it’s correct, and how to pay it. Haven’t had much luck thus far with getting info from them. I’m sure it’s fine, but feels sketch
I need advice. I called 911 for my client and now his vengeful wife is mad
For reference, I'm in home health. The client and his wife have a rocky relationship and would probably divorce if it wasn't so expensive. They live separately.
He has been sick for the past two days, which I reported to the agency. We offered to take him to urgent care or schedule a doctor's appointment but he refused. (I offered this to him both days) the wife was aware that he refused.
Then today at 5:45pm he was lying in bed when he told me to get him the phone so he can call emergency services. I brought it to him and he told them that he was having an IBS flare up and that he hadn't eaten in three days (This is not true at all and luckily I have witnesses that know its not true.)
I texted his wife to let her know that he had called 911 and she called me saying it was unnecessary and I should just bring him some pain medication. I told her that 911 had already been called.
Well tonight I got a message from his wife. This is what it said:
.........
"OK (my name) I wish you would have asked my permission before you let him call 911 because most the stuff he told him wasn't true. he told me he hasn't eaten or drank in 3 days which is not true you know it. he loves drama. then he gets over there and calls me and he tells me "oh come pick me up I want to get out of here I don't like it here, (my name) didn't send my wallet with me and I don't know what insurance I have or what medication I have" so I told him "no you're going to stay there and you're going to have to figure out how to get home. Call (friends name) call somebody but I'm not getting involved in this."
I'd appreciate it before you let him do this kind of stuff if you would ask my permission because this is unnecessary drama now that I'm drug into
......
That's the entire message ^
What im thinking about replying is:
.....
"I'm sorry (client's wife's name) but if a client tells me to call emergency services and I don't, then I could get into serious trouble, and even be charged with neglect or abuse. Especially if something happens to him. I did not bring his wallet because the EMTs were in a rush to get him to the hospital. I will contact (my boss's name) and see if anyone from the agency can drive him."
.......
I would like to send that to her however she seems like a vengeful person, she already got another caregiver fired and tried to fire another one by claiming that she showed up sick. I am thinking maybe I should just apologize to her so she won't be mad but idk. Any advice is appreciated
Edit: just some more details: 1. My boss at the home care agency did come and visit him while he was sick so she was aware of his condition
I realize now that I should have gave him his wallet. At the time, the EMTs were in a rush to get him out and there didn't seem to be much space on the stretcher so I only gave him his phone. Should I mention that?

Am I in trouble? Need advice.
Had a fever since 2 days and decided to go to the ER last night when it peaked at 103.6F
They told me it was strep and gave me 2 IV bags of fluids and 1 small IV bag of antibiotics.
This was my first ever visit to the ER and I didn’t think to check if it was in network or out of network. I only checked google and went to the one with the highest rating.
I only found out it was out of network on my way out. Feeling so stupid for making this mistake. But in my defense I couldn’t think straight at the time.
I have a PPO plan with an in-network deductible of 500 but my out of network deductible is 10,000. My out of pocket limit is 1,500.
When this ER bills me, Do I need to pay up to 10,000 before insurance kicks in? Or am I looking at 1,500 or some other amount?
Cobra eligible after starting a new job?
I was recently laid off and am now eligible for Cobra. Quickly following my last official day of employment I began a new job and am eligible for a new company healthcare plan.
Former companies health insurance plan was top notch and given size of layoffs they are covering my cobra premiums for 6 months.
-
Does anyone know if I’m eligible for cobra IF I can opt into a new plan, but can ultimately decline new health plan?
-
And does the subsidy ending in August count as termination of healthcare allowing me to opt into new companies plan off cycle with their annual enrollment?
I recognize this is a good position to be in, and am grateful for the healthcare options. I am bummed to be moving to a High deductible plan and would like to take advantage of the better (& free) plan if possible.
Thanks In advance for the input

Bridging the gap between dependent TRICARE Prime and insurance at new job?
My daughter is graduating college this May, and with it losing her TRICARE Prime eligibility (through me). Don't get me started, that's one of the only healthcare plans not included under the Affordable Care Act that doesn't let you keep your kids on it until age 26.
She already has a job lined up with healthcare benefits, but they don't kick in until July.
Any feedback regarding best options to bridge the two months between loss of TRICARE Prime and her own coverage? TRICARE Young Adult (expensive)? An Affordable Care Act plan on the exchange? Something else?
I get that it's only two months, but of course if she goes uncovered, that's when the big healthcare emergency happens. Just how life seems to go....

Walk-in urgent care
I live in a smallish town (about 100k population) annd we have one hospital with an understaffed ER. There are at least four “Doc in the Box” businesses located here. They list themselves as Walk-In Urgent Care. Their websites don’t publish owners/executives/advisors or anything other than their services, hours, location, and phone number although one listed prices and care providers.
I have health insurance and have never needed one of these places. Have any of you needed to go to one of these? Did you have a good experience? Also who owns these companies?
Question for pharmacists
Hello, so I have a question for the pharmacists on this page. I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was 11, I’ve been medicated for over a decade. As I’m sure you’re aware, there is a current shortage of ADHD meds. I know this is not y’all’s fault at all, and I’m sure it is annoying to have a bunch of people upset about their medications.
But my friends with ADHD in real life, some people on the ADHD page on Reddit, and myself have all experienced recently pharmacists acting weird towards us. Personally, I feel like they look at me like I’m a criminal drug addict and it’s apparent they don’t want to talk to me. I understand that this does not represent all pharmacists, but the fact my friends and numerous people on Reddit feel the same way does show that a good percentage of pharmacists that may harbor some sort of animosity towards people who are medicated for ADHD.
My questions is why do you think this is? Do you think it’s because some college students (without ADHD) buy adderal for their final exams? Are you worried we’ll sell it? Do you think we don’t actually need the medication? Do you dislike that people take that medication at all? I’m just trying to understand where y’all are coming from.

bcbs question about deductibles and copays
if i have the "value plan" seen here https://i.imgur.com/uMCeeCA.jpg
do i have to pay the deductible before the copay?
for example.. if i have not gone to a doctor all year, and i walk into an in network hospital for primary care.. so i have to pay the copay of $55 only? or is that AFTER i pay the deductible?
i have no idea how insurance works and the wording here is sort of confusing. since the out of network stuff specifically mentions "after ded" while the in network does not mention that.
based on the provided chart.. how bad would you consider this insurance? should i look else were?

Emergency C-section thoughts
I've been curious since I found out my sister was told the same thing by her OB during labor for her first baby to incite and emergency c section that I was told by mine on my first delivery for the same procedure. We were told that we aren't dilating past 4cm. I had been induced and eventually had my sac popped by the nurse before the doctor made this claim. She went into labor naturally and didn't need her bag popped. We were both on Medicaid and knowing that each procedure has a price for insurance and patients, I had been curious if it's probable that we both had the same legitimate cause for emergency c section or if it's more probable that the doctors manipulated things to get more from Medicaid. I can see both ways but I'm only in the patient pov

Can I report this?
So I’ve been going to a neuropsychologist for a few months and he recently diagnosed me with OCD, ADHD, and Autism. While I’ve been meeting with him, I mentioned to him that I’ve used cannabis in the past and it’s helped with my anxiety. He suggested I get a medical cannabis card and start using it again if it helps with my anxiety. He also made a recommendation to my regular physician that I be on Adderall for my ADHD. He explained to me that he thought I should be on Adderall instead of the OCD medication because it works faster and managing my ADHD would also help manage my OCD.
I regularly see an APRN so she couldn’t prescribe the Adderall and instead referred me to another doctor to get that prescription. When I went to that doctor he refused to prescribe me the Adderall because I was not on OCD medicine and he wanted me to use that first before using Adderall. The exact opposite of what my neuropsychologist wants. He also said he will not prescribe me anything unless I take a clean drug test and am off the cannabis even though the neuropsychologist agrees I should use it. The nurse who was there disagreed with the doctor and tried to argue with him on my behalf but he is refusing to help me.
I may have to find another doctor but is there anything I can do about this? Is there somewhere I can complain about his behavior? The nurse privately told me he’s an AH and patients have problems like this with him all the time.
You know what F it I’m going to go it alone
When I was 16 my career officer said I would never be able to become a Doctor, I am now nearly 10 years board certified. I’ve been let go from 3 positions all at huge healthcare corps every time for standing up for patient and employee privacy or rights. Well I’m done, its going to take a bit of time but I’m going to do it right, better and on my own. I’ll make ends meet being a Hospice Doctor but I’m going to work towards opening a Direct Primary Care clinic. I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on the model.
Basically you pay a monthly fee and get unlimited appts, a physical certain labs and imaging at no cost at the point of delivery. You have a list of fees for additional services not covered under the monthly fee, and still need gap insurance to cover hospital/ER/surgery or specialists but its much less than normal insurance premiums.
The math is that with the current model mega-corps will keep your practice open until you hit ~5000 patients which means there literally aren’t enough hours in the day to perform adequate prevention on them plus you have to push people through so quickly you miss huge things. With this model I can pick my cap based on my operating costs, say 1000 patients if its just me. That way I can spend more time with them, do more effective prevention for the same income. If it goes well enough you increase the cap to say 2500 but you add in a Advanced Care Practitioner you collaborate and trust to keep that quality high.
What’s everyone’s thoughts???

A question for US residents (HIPAA)

I came into the ER for some breathing issues, can the hospital still push me to wear a mask?
I'm a healthy human being. I don't drink, do drugs, I work out and I'm mentally stable. I don't get anxiety attacks anymore and depression is at a minimum. I came into the ER cause I HAD to. I hate going into the doctors unless I absolutely need to. I've been experiencing breathing issues for about 5 months and the last 2 nights I've really been struggling to breath and just Saif fuck it and went into the ER. Instead of panicking I tried my best to keep mind over matter while waiting in the ER, to focus on my breathing. I was asked to put on a mask, which fair.. im in a hospital and in any other circumstance, I absolutely would. That's not an issue. My issue was wearing it and my mind over matter doing a 180, as I started really having issues breathing with the mask on. I started crying and it just got worse so I pulled it down. The nurses kept demanding I keep it on. I'm just wondering if that's OK? I'm in this waiting room for a good 5 hours, not sure what's going on with my breathing. Not knowing why my breathing is so bad, I'm obviously freaking out while I have something covering my mouth with no sense of passion from these nurses.
I'm not here saying I refuse to wear a mask so don't come after me for being an anti masker. It's not why I'm making this post. I'm making it to ask if there are different approaches or leeway for people with breathing issues.. Or if there's something I can say to have the nurses be okay with me not wear it when I'm clearly struggling to breath. I sat in my own little corner away from people and hid my face as I was crying, no one near me... and they still kept coming up to me to keep it on.
I feel the male nurse dismissed me as some girl just having a minor anxiety attack after he eliminated the possibility of me being a junkie. I'm sure they see a lot of people come in that are. It wasnt an anxiety attack and I wouldn't be here at 1am if I wasn't really concerned about it. The last thing I want to be is a burden taking up a hospital bed for minor reasons.
Idk man.
How do I get a referral in US?
I don't go to the doctors much, I don't even have a primary. I want to go to an allergist and asthma specialist because I have been having some breathing issues acting up. I was supposed to get an allergy test a few years ago, but I didn't because of the pandemic and my issue cleared up. Any way there is a specific office I want to go to that has been recommended to me, but my new insurance requires a referral. So what is the fastest way to get one? Do I really have to go find a primary to get one or can I just go to a clinic or something? What if they are being difficult about the referral or want to send me some where I don't want to go? What should I say?
I’m confused - Pharmacy Question
I have HealthPartners insurance with CVS Caremark through my employer. How do I never have to walk into a CVS again? Can I go to any pharmacy or do I have to go to CVS?
When I call Health Partners with this question they direct me to Caremark. When I call Caremark their response is it will cost more for my prescriptions to go elsewhere and they remain vague. I still don’t understand how insurance works. I just want to see my doc and get my meds. I also prefer local businesses. I also for some reason have a particular distain for CVS.

How do I get health insurance?
Hello r/healthcare. Found myself in a bit of a pickle trying to get health insurance in the US and wondering if anyone here has helpful input on what I can do, if anything.
I’m a freelancer / gig worker that is the sole owner of an LLC taxed as an s-corp making around $60k gross right now. I’m not currently on payroll for the LLC but have been considering setting it up in the future.
I have been experiencing some health issues recently that I think are related to COVID, but unclear, and ultimately boils down to numbness in some extremities and the possibility of some neurological issue. Don’t have more info at this time.
I have been a ‘full time traveler’ for the last 3 years living on a sailboat and picking up gigs when I can. I currently have a PMB in South Dakota as my primary residence / address and have used that for three years now since traveling.
I currently have a 6 month short term health insurance plan that is non ACA compliant that is going to expire in early March. I started seeing some specialists when my health issues started but I’m at an an inflection point where the doctors I’m seeing keep referring me to other people and recommending more tests and I’m pretty confident this is going to turn into quite a few Drs Appts over the next 6-9 mo to figure out what’s going on, hopefully get good treatment, and make sure I’m covered if this turns into something larger. The out of pocket expenses on this plan have already become a point of financial stress this year.
Open enrollment is over and I missed the deadline. I have been told by a broker that even if I had a qualifying life event - such as moving - I would not qualify for any plan because I did not previously (or currently) have an ACA compliant plan in place. They are saying this will be true even for off exchange ACA compliant plans.
After my conversation with him and the other research I’ve been trying to do it sounds like I am categorically disqualified to get health insurance at this time in the US.
Maybe there are non ACA plans available off exchange but I would hate to have to go through getting booted or not accepted if I’m considered to have a pre existing condition (which I’m not sure I would or not I’ve just been seeing docs to try and figure this out).
Is there any hope of me finding a good health insurance plan in the US even if it involves me moving and establishing a residence?
Should I look outside the US to try and get the care I need sooner and hopefully is a cost effective manner as long as it’s quality care?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
Why would a moderator block me then try to have me permanently banned from Reddit for this answer.
Is there anything that crowd sourcing can do to rectify the Adderall shortage?
For many months now there has been a shortage of Adderall. I read an article from the Guardian saying that one congresswoman, Abigail Spanberger, wrote to the DEA and FDA to demand an explanation last December, but Spanberger’s staff told the Guardian she had yet to receive a response. If you're one of the fortunate people to have freelance employment, you can make your own schedule and drive around town during the day looking for pharmacies to fill this. But it's not fair to the full time employees who don't have the luxury of driving around town during the day to ask every single Walgreens if they have a certain drug in stock. No you can't call them and ask them if they have it in stock because it's a controlled substance; they refuse to tell you over the phone if it's in stock. It's not fair to full time employees who might have minimum wage jobs and can't afford to take time off work during the day to drive around town and track down this drug without the risk of losing their jobs. Is there anything that can be done on an individual level, through crowd sourcing, to get the attention of the DEA, FDA, or congress people, in order for them to go to bat for us? I've always been impressed by the ability of crowd sourcing to get together to achieve a common goal and i'm wondering if that can be done in this case?

Stack those healthcare bills!
Years ago I was in a severe accident, with uninsured/underinsured DUI motorists who were both incarcerated. Over 10 citations were written to three people.
My BF passed shortly thereafter. My pregnancy was terminated, I acquired Septicemia which looks like bruising on legs. Shortly thereafter I was diagnosed with Hep C. Thanks to a helmet, I’m here, although I still have some focus and balance issues and occasional seizures.
I had the most pathetic of student health insurance, so the ER, ICU and surgery costs were staggering, mostly because of out of network providers, specialist, transportation and insurance refusals. Treatments are still 100k more.
Whenever a bill comes in it goes out with a $5 bill, (only if it’s a prepaid envelope though). Many times they send the $5 back saying they don’t accept cash. (But it says all debts public and private, lol!)
The state Human Services sent a letter saying money would be taken from my estate for my future medications. (80k for a 1 1/2 to 2yr treatment). Lol, what estate?
Collectors call which I either answer in a foreign language, ignore or tell the collector they are in line to get paid but need an itemized statement which I dispute by replying“I only got 4 of those, not 5!” That’s if I am in a mood to talk at all.
Collectors call wanting to settle for a small percentage sometimes even as little as 20%. (Why not make it 0%). Last collector (today) wanted $120 on a $401 bill. 30% of the original. There is literally no motivation to pay a bill which will be less next month.
I either cash it out cash immediately to a debit card or just send it all to my credit card or power bill for advance payment. My credit score is actually pretty good, my lack of income being the main factor.
Why this long assed post? NOT FOR SYMPATHY!!! (Please keep that to yourself if you respond). because an envelope in the mailbox with an imaginary number game does not matter one bit. The accident is what caused this, the money doesn’t really matter in my case.
As long as the insurance companies want to play this racket, the people will end up paying single payer or not. What Americans need is a “maximum allowable charge” across the board.
If you have ever used a FAR you know what I am talking about. The government has a maximum rate for everything they buy, why can’t we?

How to get out of state care with Medicaid
I am a 26 year old male living in WV. I’ve been having health issues for 7 months now preventing me from doing almost anything. The only thing wrong with me that has been found is a herniation of my cerebellar tonsils. I hate to doubt doctors but there are no specialists for this within WV and they all act like this can’t be my problem. I know it is though. However, I’m told I can’t see anyone outside of WV with my Medicaid. I would like to go to Johns Hopkins and see a neurosurgeon who specializes in this. How can I go about doing this?
Any help or information is appreciated. Somedays it is bearable and somedays it is not. Today it is not. I want help and sadly I don’t think I’ll get it here.
