Hi all! This is my first post to this sub. I am a 31 yr old male. I just had my 2nd back surgery (L4-L5) in three years. My question is...

I just had my most recent surgery 2 months ago. I suffer from chronic nerve pain and have been on a daily basis for about 5 years now. I've notcied in the past few months (even before the second surgery) that when I wake up in the morning that I am freezing cold and have to go sit on the couch with a space heater pointed directly at me for about 2 hours before I start to feel like my temperature is back to normal. I don't understand what's going on. I know I'm not a cold natured person. In fact, I'm so hot natured that I usually end up taking 2 showers per day just because I sweat so much during an average day. Anyways, sorry for the long winded post, but I wanted to provide as much info to you guys as possible so hopefully I can get an idea of what's going on. Thanks to everyone in advance! I really appreciate any and all help! :)

Healthcare jobs and criminal records

So I decided a while ago I wanted to be a dental hygienist but I don't know if it is worth it with my criminal record. I have three misdemeanors which I think I think come off in 3 years. They are minor possession of alcohol back when I was 20, simple possession of marijuana, and an open container. These were all dumb things that happened, and I wasn't too worried until I received a DUI. I got it a few days ago and I was only .02 over the legal limit after getting pulled over for failing to merge left as the cop had someone else pulled over on the right. Is it still worth getting a job in healthcare? The dui is what im really worried about even though it was I guess the best possible scenario for a dui. I really don't have a life plan so It's not as disappointing as it could've been having to change career paths, but I really was hoping this career decision would be my last before I went back and got my 4 year degree.

Shampoo suggestions!

I ordered the wildlands botanical bar only to find it has coconut oil in it.... my own fault for not reading the ingredients but coconut oil breaks me out terribly. Any suggestions for a curly girl on what to use? Sheamoisture doesn't work for me either. A conditioner suggestion is also needed if you have one!

ELI%: How can you buy insurance after you get sick, but still be have an individual mandate?

Meant to be ELI5: Explain it like I'm 5

I keep hearing Republicans using the talking point that one of the ACA's major flaws is that it lets you buy health insurance after you get sick (See Ron Johnson who said you buy insurance after you crash your car).

Republicans also say that the individual mandate is a threat to our liberties.

Politics aside, how do you have an individual mandate and have a system where you don't have to buy insurance until after the problem occurs?

Girlfriend is expecting. Is there a way to know what our medical expenses will be?

My gf is due in November. Unfortunately, she can't get on my employer's pretty sweet healthcare plan, but she's got decent coverage through her own job.

Is there a way for us to know what our out-of-pocket expenses will be for all of the major procedures (regular childbirth, c-section, etc.)? In the past, I've gotten pre-authorizations so I have a quote of what a doctors visit will cost me. Having a baby is such a high-stakes event, though, and I've heard of emergency procedures costing tens of thousands of dollars. I'd hate to start this new adventure under a mountain of medical bills, so is there anything we can do to get a "quote", for lack of a better term?

Also, are there any options for using my insurance to defray the costs? Or is it better to just meet her deductible and then enjoy the coverage? (I know a lot depends on the specifics of our plans, but I'm just looking for general advice for now.) Thanks!
